About the position

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To assist the Head: Group Compliance in the execution of compliance duties and to proactively safeguard the Bank against any compliance risks by ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, including amongst others, Acts, regulations, policies and procedures.

KEY COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of relevant Acts and Regulations affecting the Financial Services Industry. Knowledge of proposed new and / or amendments where applicable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of key control assessment processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of banking products, governance and control frameworks in the financial services industry.
  • Analytical skills to analyse trends and typologies in data and make informed decisions on such trends and typologies.
  • Ability to identify weaknesses in the control environment and recommend suggested changes.

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS

Governance:

  • Knowledge of the Regulatory landscape affecting the financial services industry.
  • Identifying and assessing proposed changes to new legislation or amendments to current legislation and assisting with conducting an impact assessment of the proposed new or amended changes.
  • Drafting governance documents.
  • Proactively identifying, analysing and drafting Risk Based Approaches for the Group.
  • Gathering information on request from competent authorities timeously and efficiently by engaging relevant stakeholders for such information requested and vetting such documents before submission.

Advice and Identification of Compliance Risks:

  • Providing advice to all divisions within the bank under the guidance of applicable managers.
  • Raising awareness of the cost benefit of compliance, good ethics and corporate governance.
  • Assist in identifying, documenting, and assessing the compliance risks associated with the Group's business activities, including the development of new products and business practices, the proposed establishment of new types of business or customer relationships, or material changes in the nature of such relationships.
  • Assisting in measuring compliance risk and using measurements to enhance compliance risk assessment.

Monitoring:

  • Conducting monitoring on the requirements of applicable Acts or Regulations.
  • Drafting relevant documents related to monitoring.
  • Assist in identify possible areas of concern and contribute towards the monitoring of such areas.
  • Monitoring applicable systems within the Bank insofar as they relate to compliance requirements.
  • Assist management in making recommendation on remedial action to be taken by business to address shortcomings.
  • Assist management in closing off on reports timeously and in an organised manner.
  • Assist management in tracking and reporting on progress made against all non-compliant findings raised.

Training:

  • Assist management in compiling training material and assist in executing the relevant training interventions as planned.
  • Assist management in conducting spot checks with employees to test their understanding of compliance training provided. Where gaps are identified, make recommendations to management on remediation required.
  • Data Analytics:
  • Conduct analytics using data on specific compliance requirements.
  • Proactively identify areas of concern where data analytics is required to address any shortfalls.
  • Track remediation.

Projects:

  • Assist in managing Compliance projects for the implementation of required systems for the Bank.
  • Conduct gap analysis, where appropriate, and manage the resolution of the gaps with relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist management in reporting on the progress made on compliance projects at relevant forums.

Record Keeping:

  • Ensure effective record keeping processes are maintained together with an audit trail to evidence all work conducted which will serve as evidence for audits, inspections etc.

Customer Service:

  • Provide and contribute to effective stakeholder management.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders in order to deliver services in accordance with the expectations of the organisation.
  • Maintain external relationships to ensure compliance services meet the required service standards.
  • Interpret business/customer requirements and address customer queries and challenges to provide timeous solutions.
  • Interacting with all areas of the Bank in acting as a catalyst in driving the changed initiatives in ensuring compliance with agreed risk parameters as set out in the Bank's strategy.

SKILLS/PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED

  • Relevant Bachelors degree.
  • An admitted Attorney and /or a Diploma in Anti Money Laundering or related field will be an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years' relevant experience within the Financial Services Industry.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in data analytics.
  • Experience in advising on matters in an organisation with a diverse range of business activities.
  • Assisting in the development of policies and procedures.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work after hours if there is a need to do so for short periods.
  • Ability to build successful and long-lasting relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Possess soft skills to maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders long term.

Market related Cost to Company, based on qualification and experience
